World Film Photography Day - The blogcarnival

März 22nd, 2008 by Julia

Now the World Film Photography Day (WFPD) is over. Have you shoot something this day? What have you shoot? Was it a good feeling to come back to the roots of photography? - As you know from my site, I always shoot analog and I love taking pictures very much, so the World Film Photography Day was a good possibility to take pictures. Unfortunately I wasn´t able to shoot, because in my town it was raining cats and dogs. Furthermore I had to work the whole day, but I promise to make up for it.

So, now I present the five responses to my blogcarnival and make a short evaluation of the question: Will you shoot film?

From the number of responses, only five out of over 100 readers, I think it is obvious that film photography is on the way to disappear. The most people seem to succumb the “charm of digitaly photography”. But the participants say yes to film photography.

Bob has always been a fan of film photography. He also says that digital photography might produce lower costs, but hasn´t got the mystique that film has. He is also shocked that by now films disappeared in the camera shops and are replaced by memory cards. He wanna use the World Film Photography Day to interest his children in photography and to start passing on his the fascination.

Hoshisato intended to take part at the WFPD, too. He still uses his SLR for b&w photography and is glad for initiatives like this day to keep film alive. He doesn´t think that film will disappear completly and hopes that the people will return to film and realize the differences between film and digital. But as Bob he also complains about how difficult it may be to buy a roll of film or get it developed.

Niels shoots mostly digital but is aware of the charm of film. When he´s outdoors his analog camera is next to the digital one. He´s gonna participate in the WFPD and thinks it makes people aware of shooting. He thinks that digital photography makes the stuff almost to easy. Furthermore, film photography makes you a better photographer. But in his eyes film will once disappear.

Marcel says “yes” to the WFPD. He wanna participate in the initiative, because he likes shooting film and never had a digital camera. He thinks that taking pictures became to easy and cheep and that good pictures need the time and the sense to refine your skills.

Your photo tips also joins the WFPD. He thinks photography should be celebrated. You don’t get instantaneous feedback like in digital shoots and so you have to think about what your are doing with your camera. His heart beats for the darkroom and the anicipation of seeing his image slowly appear. He wanna creates something.

I thank your all for your answers and hope you never loose the fascination for film photography. I will draw the winner of a set of five Photo Buttons in the following days, after presenting more of them.

My stepson took one of disposable cameras you sent to school with him where he documented his day in film. Unfortunately when it was my turn after spending a long time hunting for my film camera (it was in the attic) and finding some film for it the battery was dead and I couldn’t get a replacement in time. Thankfully I had one of the other disposables so we’ll see how they come out.

My stepson certainly enjoyed his task for the day but it took a good few attempts to explain to him how film cameras worked :)

    Wow, that was fast!
Hopefully you will get some nice pictures. I’m quite sorry I wasn’t able to shoot but my camera isn’t waterproof :-). I could have used a disposable, too, but it was to dark. At least I usually shoot film, so I didn’t miss out on to much.

I hope this was as smashing of a success as I thought it would be. Congrats and thank you.

About Blog.ForeignLight

In photography the picture becomes a moment which is captured and the camera becomes some kind of 'third eye'. Every picture is a part of reality. The photography becomes a language, a language beyond the word. Every photographer has its own language.

This is my one.
